This property, belonging to
Conte Emo Capodilista, whose family settled in Montecchia in the 11th
century, lies in the Veneto region, 15 kms south of Padua on the border
of a regional park - the Eugenean hills - within easy reach of the
famous historic villas of the Veneto, many of them built by the great
Italian architect Andrea Palladio, as well as the northern Italian
cities of Venice, Vicenza, Verona, Mantua, Rovigo and the Lake district. |
| The immediate
surroundings, for instance Este, Monselice, Montagnana and Arquà
Petrarca, or the impressive abbey of Praglia, still within sight
of La Montecchia, offer a cornucopia of cultural sights.
The medieval castle, the Castello del Mottolo, is at
the heart of the estate, while the so-called Hunting Lodge, an elegant
16th century villa which is considered one of the highlights of
the area, overlooks the estate from a hill at the foot of the Eugenean
regional park. |

Today the
estate and its owners are wholly dedicated to the production of
high-quality wine which has been increasingly winning accolades
from leading wine critics all over the world.
Part of the castle and 3 apartments within the buildings
of the estate have recently been completely renovated with every
comfort for discerning guests, to be rented by theweek to those
interested in a cultural and/or wine and food orientated holiday
in an incomparable setting. |
| La
Casa del Prete
Sleeps 4 - 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
A couple of steps and a wrought iron gate lead into the garden which
surrounds the charming two-storied building. As the name indicates,
the castle priest once lived here.
The hall, a spacious, comfortable sitting room, with a sofa which
can be turned into an extra bed, the kitchen (no oven), the dining
room and a bathroom with tub are on the ground floor, with light
pouring in through the windows from both sides of the house. A stairway
leads up to the first floor where are one twin and one double bedroom,
the double with en-suite bathroom (shower) |

 |
The garden
is planted with olive trees and blossoming oleander bushes. A large
table stands in the shade of a lime tree, whereas comfortable reclining
chairs furnish another corner of the garden.
The house is equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine,
and central heating. It has been tastefully adapted and fitted with
those modern amenities that have become necessities, even within
ancient walls.
The house was fully restored in 2001 and the light,
airy, whitewashed rooms furnished with charming rural antiques belonging
to the family provide a sunny, friendly as well as very comfortable
accomodation.
