Villa Donatella is a 17th Century elegant
palace a few km out of Anghiari, built on the medieval walls of a castle traces of which
are the remainings of the wall surrounding the Italian terraced
gardens, with a private 4x9m swimming-pool, a furnished gazebo,
an area for dining outside and several relaxation spots.
The terraced Italian garden on the ancient medieval walls, which
goes back to the second half of the 16th century is on two levels
with hedge rows, heritage roses, flowers in season, as well as fruit
trees.Two majestic centenarian oaks have grown into the historic
walls which surround the buildings

The villa stands in a small village close to Arezzo,
Monterchi, where the most famous fresco of Piero della Francesca
called "La Madonna del Parto"is lovingly kept.
Nearby or at short distance, more cities where famous Italian ancient
artists have lived and worked, as Michelangelo (Caprese 25 kms),
Giotto (Assisi) 75 kms, Della Robbia e Vasari (Arezzo 30 kms). Close
to the village guests will also find tennis courts, a golf course
and horse-riding stables.

The
Palazzo:
Ground floor. The main entrance is from the village
piazza leading to a big living room, one twin bedroom (where beds
may become double) with bathroom with shower , one double bedroom
with wardrobe and bathroom with shower.Everything is furnished with
superior taste and great comfort. Wireless available free. |
First floor. Marble
important stairs lead to the biggest part of the villa, including
a large living room with fireplace and dining room, a small studio
room with piano and TV sat, the kitchen fully equipped with oven
and dishwasher. The private areas include one double bedroom with
bathroom with shower, one twin bedroom with bathroom with shower
, one twin bedroom (beds can be united), one bathroom with shower
with access from the corridor.
On this level the Italian garden with open-air dining area and private
swimming-pool. |

The
Tower has independent access both from the outside and from
the interior of the villa.
In this area a living/dining-room with corner kitchen, a fireplace
and TV sat, and two double bedrooms with bathroom with shower.

The house has gone, over the time, through a number
of restorations, mainly to the exterior, and, after the terrible
earthquake of 1917, restored massively.
The villa is superbly furnished with antiques and tastefully decorated
thoroughly.
It is also fully equipped with dishwasher, washing-machine and dryer
and TV sat. All the bathrooms have been recently restored, still
keeping a unique classic style. |

The villa has an illuminated fish pond with a fountain at the centre
of the garden, and many trees all around to assure beauty and privacy.
For the guests convenience, the meals can be prepared upon request,
as it is possible to book cooking services.
The area has nevertheless very good restaurants, where the typical
Tuscan cuisine can, or should we say, must be given a taste. Guests
should not forget to try the worldwide famous selection of Chianti
wines.

The Palace History: The
Palazzo was built in the 16th century, when Tuscany was dominated
by the Medici. Monterchi came under their dominion after the battle
of Anghiari, in 1440. The castle was attacked and then conquered
and destroyed. Anfrosina Tarlati, who then ruled Monterchi, was
forcibly expelled forever, hated by the people of Monterchi who
willingly submitted to the domination of the Florentines.
