Elba is a big and beautiful island, famous also
for beeing the Napoleon residence until 1815; it lies in the Thyrrenian
Sea, 10 kms off the Tuscan coast, connected to the port of Piombino
with a ferryboat from Portoferraio in an hour journey. The island
is very big and varied: in the south you can see sunny beaches,
while in the northern part you find wooded slopes, with chestnut-trees
and holm-oaks.
The Elba Island is part of the protected marine park of the Tuscan
Archipelago and has developed a very good touristic organization.
|
|
Villa EVA is in the area of Poggio Marciana, a medieval village
about 40 minutes from Portoferraio's port, at 350 m altitude, and
5 km from Marciana Marina public beaches.
The characteristic village of Poggio is only 5 minutes walking from
the villa; its old granite paved streets have been built like concentric
rings around St. Niccolò Church, standing on the highest
part of the village.
Poggio has excellent restaurants, bars and food stores.
2 km away there is the cableway to Mount Capanne, from where you
can enjoy a wonderful view of the whole island of Elba and Tuscan
archipelago.
|
 |
 |
Villa Eva stands in a chestnuts, pines and holm-oaks
wood.
The view from the house is very charming: on one side the view to
the old Poggio village and to the highest top of the island, the
Mount Capanne (1019 meters), on the other the sea, with Marciana
Marina, the bay of Fenicia and the headland of Enfola, while in
the distance you see Leghorn coast.
|
|
Villa EVA consists of 2 independent apartments.
The MAIN has a large lounge with panoramic view,
a spacious terrace facing the sea, a well equipped kitchen with
dishwasher, a double and a twin bedroom and a bathroom with bath.
A stone BBQ is out of the entrance.
|
 |
 |
The SMALLER apartment
is used from time to time by the owners who live in the Chianti
area.
A washing-machine outside is shared.
Poggio Marciana area is ideal for wonderful walks, even through
CAI (Italian Alpine Club) paths.
|
|
A visit to Marciana Marina should include the Promenade from the
Cotone (a natural shelter) to the 12th Century Saracen Tower, a
fortification built among the others to defend the Elba island from
invaders over the centuries.
All year round many events take place on the island: visitors will
have the chance to see antique regattas on the sea, as well as the
Napoleon commemoration day in April, or all sorts of religious processions
and sports marathons through the uncontaminated nature.
