This Tuscan town is the only City-State (Republic) that preserved its own independence in Italy until the 1847 yr. The perimeter of Km 4250, with 10 bastions, a platform and the betterments still in part preserved and restored testimony of the big care with which the Lucchese nobles defended the freedom of the "Civitas", leaving intact their Walls (XVI-XVII sec.).
