Marina di Alliste GALLIPOLI

PIZZO DEL DIAVOLO (1 KM)

The Salento is an attractive longuish peninsula at the southeast of Italy, where the sea has always been the main resource for the inhabitants, beeing it unpolluted and teeming with fish, but also the door through which past invasions and pillages by turks and saracens took place. The Salento is therefore somehow a bridge between different cultures, beeing only few kilometers far from the Balcans. Its touristic potential is high, yet not completely discovered by the big touristic industry. The result is uncontaminated sand beaches and rocks in crystalline seawater. A real off the beaten truck!
Our residences at Marina di Alliste are comfortable and close to the most interesting places to visit, in a strategic position between the Ionian and the Adriatic seas.

The prices of our residences are very affordable particularly in the periods of middle/low season, the months of June May and September being in fact excellent from the climatic point of view. The 4 residences are composed of two double bedrooms, living room with kitchenette and bathroom, outside court with garden or patio. 4 simple but well equipped homes for a comfortable family holiday in a Sea resort to be discovered.
Each residence can sleep 4
(further 2 beds can be add in the bedrooms for extra)
The bathroom is provided of sink, bidet and shower.
The living room has a 14" TV set, table with chairs for 6, a kitchenette corner with oven, refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher and what necessary to cook and enjoy home meals.

SAND BEACHES (5 KM)

Outside a private court with barbecue, table and chairs, outdoor shower, beach umbrella, 2 beach armchairs and parking. The seashore is 100 m. far from the property. Kinder park, church, restaurants/pizzerie, groceries and all kind of shop in a ray of 500 mt.
Marina di Alliste is 12 km south of Gallipoli and is abutting to north to Torre Suda (Marina di Racale) and to south to Torre S. Giovanni (Marina di Ugento). The coast is rocky but with many small access for easy reach also to children. The sandy beaches are 5 km north (Loc. Pizzo) and 6 km south (Torre S. Giovanni); both with easy access.

Tourist information
When travelling on the roads of the Salento in a land filled with centennials olive trees and wheat fields burnt by the sun in August, it is not difficult to bump into small constructions realized with dry white stones. They are called Caseddi, or Furneddi. These constructions come from the ancient times when the Salentine people built them with patience, fitting better they could the irregular stone without any mortar. In fact, for their extreme hardness, these stones cannot be easily modelled, therefore it was simpler to look for their right location in a gigantic and perfect "puzzle". Generally the Caseddi are not plastered and their only opening is the door.
They were used until the first half of last century as summer residence or shelter for shepherds and farmers.

The cuisine in Salento
The Salento has appreciated gastronomic traditions. Let's think to the homemade pasta, with the best hard grain flours that preserve a distinctive aroma "casereccio" after the cooking. Considerable is also the sauce, prepared with the juicy Salentine tomatoes and using a special sheep cheese produced in summer, the "cacioricotta".
But let's describe the simple fresh summer dish to make a break at noon waiting for your tasty fish in one of the cheap restaurants of the village. A meal strictly characteristic from Lecce town is the "frisa", a simple grilled slice of bread, a special "bruschetta" wet and garnished with fresh tomato, typical extra virgin oil and oregano.

In this land the magnificent hundreds years old olive trees reach unimaginable dimensions and give a superb spectacle to the traveller and a good extra virgin oil.
The simple Mediterranean meal to be accompanied tasting the unmistakable red wines of this sunny land, strong and delicate, pride of the Salentino farmers.
As far as folklore is concerned, to be noticed "la pizzica" or "taranta" , the traditional popular Salentine dance which draw its origin from ancient stories. It is considered as the natural ancestor of the better known neapolitan "tarantella".
The legend wants that people bitten (in dialect pizzica) by the tarantula (taranta) was told to began to move in a convulse way, following the frenetic rhythm of the tambourines, being possessed by malicious spirits that would have gone out prolonging the dance sufficiently. Today the young musicians and many local administrators renewed this tradition as folklore, helping it to reach some fame also in other regions of Italy, as it is often presented in Folk and Ethnic Festivals with great success.. During a vacation in Salento, guests will certainly be able to appreciate this unique tradition.
