A typical handsome XVIII Century farmhouse
has just been restored to offer a comfortable and warm hospitality
in its picturesque apartments just below the S.
Cristina's XVII Century Castle which lies in a strategic
position at the crossroad with Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, ten minutes
drive north of Lake Bolsena, only 3 km away from Grotte di Castro,
a fascinating ancient village of Etruscan origin which is suspended
on top of a rock.
|
| The
farmhouse has been skillfully converted with careful attention to
conserving authenticity together with comfort, and privacy in a
pleasant combination with communal living, if wanted.
The very large farm now contains eight
charming apartments (Firenze
- sleeps 6, Siena
- sleeps 4/5, Civita
- sleeps 4, Orvieto
- sleeps 4/5, Granaio
1 - sleeps 6/8, Granaio
2 - sleeps 6/8, Marta
- sleeps 4, Capodimonte
- sleeps 4) mostly furnished with original pieces.

On the ground floor, opening onto the
main terrace overlooking the swimming pool there is a large "taverna"
with brick vaulted ceilings. The space is divided into three main
areas: meeting room - dining room, billiard room, ping-pong room,
plus a large kitchen available for all the guests and equipped for
cooking courses as well.
The lake is only 10 minutes away from the estate. Its clear and
clean waters can offer a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a holyday
that is a combination of water
sports (water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing, etc.) and
culture. Horse
riding is another fascinating opportunity to enjoy
the countryside above the lake, with the horses available at the
Castle.
|
| The fairy tale Castle
is most romantic with its castellated turret rising above old age
woods.
S. Cristina is a wonderful place to stay, with the opportunity of
water sports or just lazing on the beach at Lake Bolsena, horse
riding, and mountain
biking or hiking in the Monte Rufeno National Park.
On request fantastic boat trips on the lake can be done including
water-skiing and archeological snorkeling above the remains of a
pre-Etruscan village lying on the bottom of the lake at 3 meters
dating back to 1000 years B.C. |
 |
 |
Thanks
to its strategic position S. Cristina's guests have only to choose
between a visit to an Etruscan necropolis (the nearest one is only
7 km away) or other magnificent sites of great interest, belonging
to different ages.
It has a long association with powerful Prelates who played a key
role in forming the Vatican State, which culminated in Pope Pius
IX's chief advisor, Cardinal Prospero Caterini, choosing the Castello
in 1848 as his personal residence. His descendants still use this
as a country home.
