The ancient Fief of
Farnetta, 300 hectares about, with oak tree woods and sunflower
fields, in the gently rolling hills of southern Umbria, in the Todi
county, belongs since many centuries ago to the Nevi family of Todi.
The farmhouse with tower sits on the top of the
hill and has a commanding view of both the estate and the surrounding
countryside. |
| It was recently restored (1998-2000) and brought to the ancient
radiant charm by the actual patriarch, with the help of two famous
world-renowned Italian architects. They added modern amenities while maintaining the Fief's rich
history. During the renovation, they discovered that the foundation
of the house belonged to an ancient Roman wall, most probably part
of a villa or perhaps a religious place. |
 |
|
Whether they are gazing
out of their bedroom window over rolling Umbrian fields, sitting
on the sunlit patio, or lounging by the blue-tiled pool, villa guests
always feel a part of this world - the world of vineyards, sunflower
fields, and vegetable harvests.
Renovated with antique style furniture created by the craftsmen
of Todi, The Fief is the ideal point of departure for cultural and
nature excursions. The oldest part of this foundation dates from the
fifteenth century, with some additional work performed in more "recent"
years: in 1818 and 1948. |

The house is centrally located in
the province of Umbria, between oak forests and sunflowers fields,
in a region that has a striking undiscovered charm and is full of
pleasant surprises.
For instance, the world-renowned Fossil Forest, located in the nearby
town of Dunarobba, houses the only fossilized (not petrified) wood
that is still in its vertical position. Down the road, Carsulae
has perhaps the most beautiful ancient ruins of any Umbrian-Roman
city in central Italy. |
Also close by are Amelia
with its gigantic city walls and intriguing museum, Narni with its
perfectly preserved Medieval urban city plan, and Lugnano in Teverina
with the one of the most beautiful Umbrian-Roman churches still
standing today.
In addition, the nearby Marmore Waterfalls ("la Cascata delle
Marmore") are considered some of the most spectacular in the
world.
All of these amazing sites, and many more, are only minutes away
by car from the Villa. Undoubtedly, however, the most amazing part
of staying in "The Fief" is the atmosphere. The loving
care put into the restoration of the house by its owners shines
through to the guests that stay there, and that same warm attention
ensures that each guest's stay is a memorable one from the moment
they arrive until the time they say farewell. |
