Sperlonga is a charming littlefisherman
village, a best-kept secret mostly unknown till the 60's, when the
panoramic road between Terracina and Gaeta was built.
|
|
In the last 40 years it became a famous summer resort for the Roman
people, cause of its fine white sandy beaches, part of an umpolluted
rocky coast with small inlets and beaches of incomparable beauty,
the village preserving the charm of the former fishermen resort,
with the warm and coloured narrow streets scattered with andicraft
shops and white painted houses, similar to Capri.

 |
This is Sperlonga "Alta"
(up) where a staircase, starting from the "Piazzetta"
- where cafes and restaurants have their tables and chairs - leads
to sperlonga "Mare" descending no more than 100 stone
steps among white Mediterranean houses.
Just at the end of this ataircase, a small square on the sandy beach
hosts a restaurant and a cafè, upon which, on the first floor,
there is Casa Maria Laura, a quiet apartment for 2+2, with all comforts.
The entrance is directly on the corridor, at side of which there
are a double bedroom, the kitchen and the bathroom.
|
|
At its end a doot opens to the living room whith
a large table and chairs for 8, a double sofabed, TV set with videoregistrator
and a balcony overlooking rge small square and the beach/sea.
The kitchen is well equipped with oven and 4 hobs, refrigerator
with freezer, washing machine and table with chairs for 3..
a balcony connects the livingroom with the kitchen. |
 |
 |
In the corridor a masquered door
can be opened (for extra) to give access to a second livingroom
with a double sofabed, wardrobe, TVset, refrigerator with freezer,
independent entrance and kitchenette corner, for a total of 2+4
sleeps.
The beach in front of the house is free but beach clubs are in walking
distance (few metres) and the small Marina (in front) offers small
boats for rental.
|
|
The bus just out of the house connects Sperlonga with Fondi and
Formia railway stations, where trains at every hour leads to Rome
or Naples downtown in one hour.
The coast between Sperlonga and Gaeta consists of small, green promontories
on which small ancient sighting-towers against Saracens take place.
In between that promontories small bays with or without white sand
(Fontania, Ariana, Arenauta and S.Vito) make this coast one of the
most beautiful and panoramic of the Tyrrhenian Sea. |
 |
 |
The via Flacca (a Roman road built in 184 B.C., ) - which still
connects Gaeta with Rome - leading towards the town of Sperlonga,
was lined with beautiful villas, gardens, swimming pools, nymphaeums
and mausoleums.
The best preserved is Villa of Emperor
Tiberius, located just below the Sperlonga Museum. |
