why
in the Ulixes'Coast?

The shore between Formia and Gaeta, in the most
characteristic side of Formia, along the boulevard of a beach and
resort well appreciated by the ancient Romans, witnessed by the
important vestigia (Cicero's Tumbs nearby, the beautiful Caposele
harbour, via Appia, named the Queen of Roman roads), has been a
privileged holiday choice among the high class people coming from
the cities around the Thirties (as can be seen by some Liberty style
villas).
Along the 2 kms boulevard on the coast facing the Gaeta's promontory, this is a renomated beach for its aquatic sports (windsurf, kitesurf, sailing) taking place there all year long also with good courses,
|
|
The place has been recently discovered by the family tourism, being the beach so safe and comfortable and so close to the houses and to the historical centre. A beach that can be lived all year round, with beautiful historical villas, an ideal place to take healthy walks and with many interesting activities to try. Access to the villa is from a gate placed on the road, with a large parking/garden area inside, This is a comfortable solution in order to avoid having to park on the public street purchasing a parking ticket during the May-September period.
The boulevard by the seaside is very easy to reach, as the state road Flacca is behind it and makes it easy to go either north and south in the province. |

|
The house is a villa built in the Fifties before the beach, within an area where ancient vestigia of Romans Era are still visibile, specially wall ruins made in "opus reticolarum", which is part of the ancient paved road, and also remainings of an ancient 1st century fountain, once decorating the “nimpheo” and the garden of a Roman Patrician residence.
The villa is a two levels building consisting of two distinct apartments;
one is on the mezzanine floor and the second on first floor. They
are totally separated and independent, with different entrances,
being therefore very suitable for two families wishing to share
vacation times, while keeping their own privacy. The only shared
place is the beautiful large garden, measuring about 100 sqmt, spreading
from the gate to the villa, rich in high trees like pinetrees, as
well as fruit trees.
|
|
The garden is partially
paved, suitable for parking several cars and partially kept green.
Out of the gate, separated only by the boulevard, the beach and
several well organized beach clubs. The apartments are almost same
size, about 110 sqmt each.
The lower apartment consists of an entrance room,
a large living room with French door onto the garden, a small handy
kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms
In detail it has 2 double bedrooms, a twin bedroom and a double
sofabed in the living room, for a total sleeps of 8.
The first bathroom is with bath and the second with shower.

|
|
The upper apartment, reachable through a small staircase from the garden leading to the entrance door, includes an entrance-corridor, a living room with frenchdoor, kitchenette, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a tiny terrace by the side of the entrance.
In detail 3 double bedrooms, one of which can be split into 2 single beds, for a total sleep of 6. The master bathroom is with bath and the second with shower.
From the entrance side, a lovely view onto the sea can be enjoyed.
The house can sleep in total 14 people, 2 of which can use the double sofabed in the lower apartment. |
|
The apartments are simply maintained, typically decorated and furnished according to the exclusive use by the sea. Furniture is simple but very handy and easycare, suitable for those willing to give more attention to the outdoor life, in the garden or by the sea. Utilities and comfort:
Washing machines, color TVs and private parking area
Hot water is guaranteed by electric boilers,
All electrical appliances are recently installed. |

Where to go and what to see: the position of the villa right before the sea, almost on the beach, makes it particularly agreed by families or youngsters loving 24h sea activities. Besides living by the sea, several interesting sites and attractions can be suggested.
First of all searching traces of the ancient Roman villas, among which the most important is Cicero 's, just on the state Appia road, where some say the great Roman orator was tumulated. The tumb is very well preserved, and tourism as well as some cultural events take place around it.; then the Roman ancient Caposele harbour, well visibile with its fish stocking buildings along the port, the prehensile gardens and the annexe Villa Rubino, itself being a ruin of a marvellous republican villa.
The whole is rich in charm, with small boats or old fishing boats belonging to old fishermen, who will be happy to take you for a tour or to give you fishing or sailing lessons.

Formia has several more archeological sites to visit (Giano's Temple on Gianola's promontori) or naturalistic (Mounts Aurunci Park, with heights up to 1000 mt, the regional Gianola's Park), historical and cultural (Castellone and Mola historical city centers, or the medieval small villages of Maranola and Castellonorato, appearing to the visitors as living cribs where time has seemed to stop.
Besides Formia many opportunities to visit, at short distance, some
important places: the town of Gaeta with its millenary history,
the medieval Minturno village with the remainings of the Roman theatre,
the small town of Itri, birth place of Friar Diavolo (Devil) and
its castle, and the ancient Via Appia treat, still well preserved.
Formia is also interesting for its position, being easy to reach via train, from its railstation placed in town, the unmissable towns of Rome and Naples, in little more than an hour journey, therefore being a comfortable starting point for several interesting excursions. |
