A LITTLE HISTORY
The road Amerina was opened in 241-240 BC combining ancient local roads linking Veio - the last Etruscan bench mark against Rome - with Amelia, touching the main Falisco centers: Nepeta (Nepi) Falerii Fescennium (Corchiano), Gallesa, Vasanello and Hortae (Orte). North of Amelia connecting with other ancient routes heading towards the middle and upper Tiber valley along the border of the Etruscan territory (Tuder, and Vettonia Perusia), then to the Adriatic through the territory of Umbria. The Falisci who spoke and wrote a language similar to the archaic Latin, along with Veientes and Capenates, inhabited the territory till Amerina and from the fourth century BC were affected by the historical process of "Romanization" or the gradual conquest by Rome and the imposition of its laws, its political, religious and military process that ended in 90 BC, when Roman citizenship was extended to all inhabitants. The route Amerina continued to Todi and Perugia and there it splits: one branch reconnecting with the via Cassia and the other touching Gubbio joined the via Flaminia, towards the Adriatic sea.
The total distance from Rome to Amelia was 56 miles as reported by Cicero, (about 80 BC).
