Crabs & Shells

Sciacca is famous for its Thermal SPAS

Crabs and Shells shares only the entrance to the villa with another portion, while all the spaces around the house are private.
It is composed of two bodies, connected by a large private patio.
The first building faces the sea and contains the livingroom with kitchenette and a laundry room with washing machine and sink. In the second building there are a double bedroom and a bath with shower.

The total surface lived in amount to 70 sqm that together with the large patio make this property a very suitable choice for a family of four-five for a very relaxing holiday on the sea bank.
The house has been completely restructured in 2005, while its construction dates 1970.
Its peculiarity is that it is just on the beach, where it is entered by the patio through a small gate.
The beach is long one km about, with thin white sand, and in summer some small cafes and a pizzerias open there.

The furnishing of the bedroom is composed of a double bed, a nice old closet of the beginning of the last century, a single small bed, a rocker and a small table with the necessary (boiler and cups, coffee, tea, sugar), to prepare a warm drink without going out.
The bath has the shower, bidet, sink, wc and small furniture.

The other body, large 40 sqm about, has the kitchen built in masonry, with a four fires cooker, oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, a so called "peninsula" which divides the two areas, being used as table for 6.
The living room has a double sofa bed, a table made of local ceramics, television, a deck chair and a nice kitchen sideboard of mid 20th.
The kitchen is equipped with toaster, coffee machine and all what needed for a long stay (pots, dishes, glasses, cups, etc.).

The outside space that measures 150 sqm is equipped with a beach umbrella, tables, chairs, deck chairs, hammock, barbecue, shower and parking for two cars. Equipped with fans, iron and ironing table, the house can host up to 5 people. The first supermarket is 4 kms far. Car is needed.

The south western part of Sicily is often referred to as African Sicily, both for the climate and the proximity to the Tunisian coast.
This part of the country boasts some of the most extensive olive and grape production in Sicily, so the local oil and wine are not to be missed!

THE PORT

The Sciacca's 30 kilometres coastline offers the visitor the greatest imaginable variety of marine environments: large sandy beaches, sheer cliffs and remote tiny beaches, off the beaten track
San Marco beach, Sovareto beach, Timpi Russi beach offer opportunities for swimming, snorkelling, sailing, windsurfing and have panoramic views of the coast for miles away.
Sea water is usually on the cool side due to the channel stream.
Biking, trekking and boat trips can be taken from the harbour.

The best sandy beach of the area is on the nearby coast " Eraclea Minoa".
Fresh fish as good wine and also a variety of traditional shops offering hand painted local pottery can be purchased at the shopping centre for reasonable price (1 mile away) few good restaurants are within a short distance.

Throughout alleys and little squares of the port area and the town center there are many restaurants, all specialized with delicious (sea-)food. Winding stairways, narrow little streets and alleys, window are filled with the inevitable geraniums.

The real heart of the town centre is steeped in history and ancient architecture of Moorish, and baroque style, ancient alleyways and courtyards. A labyrinth of houses and streets, some of which can be narrow enough to fit only a single person at a time.
Gelato lovers take note: The "granita" in Sciacca is widely regarded as one of the best in Italy, other sciacca desserts are cassata, cannoli with ricotta cheese and finally arancini (rice balls with ragù sauce).
Sciacca is a very safe place you can go anywhere for a good night, you will find locals warm and friendly.

In addition to the indented coastline, Sciacca has also a gentle healthy climate which makes it an ideal place for health cures thermal spa complex and public pool with hot water. The thermal Piscine, costs the princely sum of € 5 for a day.
Less than 2 miles from the property, at the end of the road, Monte Kronio with its natural steam and a spectacular view of mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.

Regional bus service in Sciacca provides regular connections for Palermo, Trapani and Agrigento which can be reached in less than two hours. The train service is very poor.
A car is needed to visit the most important sites and monuments of the island, since the most famous are spread around the island, and the different areas each have their own unique attractions.
Roads are OK. Try to avoid Catania and Palermo and you'll find that driving around Sicily is not easy but the best way.
The privilege of being in a central coastal position means that many other parts of the island can easily be reached.
