Cattolica: Lies at 7 km
from the house and therefore happens to be the nearest beach. The
beautiful small town has an elegant city-center with shops, a theatre,
cinemas, bars and restaurants. A recently opened aquarium is very
interesting to visit, as it is full of different marine species,
putting it at the same level of the famous aquarium of Genova. Open
from May to October
Gradara:ancient romantic medieval village is at only
4 km from the house. Famous for it’s castle where Paolo and
Francesca's story took place. Very pleasant to walk in at night,
through it’s dimly lit narrow streets.
The castle is open all year round.
Pesaro: native town of the famous musician Rossini,
lies at 15 km from the house. In fact during summer the Rossini
festival is a must to visit. Apart from it's festival, the theatre,
the beautiful shops it is also a resort. Industrially it is renowned
for being one of the most important areas in Italy for the production
of home furniture. The town is full of life all the year round.
Urbino: another medieval city at 26 km from the house,
famous for it’s ancient university, castle and very pleasant
atmosphere in both summer and winter.
The Independent Republic of San Marino: in only forty
minutes by car, using either the high way or the country side roads,
you can reach the smallest and oldest republic of the world, also
known as the Italian Montecarlo. Situated on the top of a mountain
it overlooks both the Romagna and the Marche region. In summer it
is common to run into medieval festivals where one can see people
dressed in original costumes of the time, marching round the town
in parades.
The republic is also famous for it's shops where very convenient
prices can be obtained due to the lower taxation.
Gabicce: situated at 8 km from the house it is the
second nearest beach.
Riccione: also called the Green Pearl of the Adriatic
is at 15 km. from the house. Very elegant resort, it is famous for
it's beautiful shops and nightlife. In-fact some of the most famous
discos are located in it’s surroundings.
Montegridolfo: medieval fortress, at 11 km from the
house, completely restored a few years ago, maintaining it’s
original aspect. It is one of the nicest places one can spend an
evening in, both in summer and in winter. In fact it’s enchanted
atmosphere makes one go back in the past. During Christmas time
the classic music which normally is heard while walking through
it’s streets, either thanks to street concerts or to strategically
placed loud speakers, is replaced by Christmas carols, very pleasant
to be heard while roaming round the "mercatini", Italian
word for small markets.
Saludecio: another medieval village which lies at only
15 km from the house, is very renowned for it’s Ottocento
Fest, a folkloristic, cultural show, which takes place in August,
where one can attend a continuous alternation of street cabaret
shows, theatre shows or music played by live orchestras.
Rimini: lies at 25 km, originally founded by the Romans,
therefore rich with Roman vestiges, is famous for it’s all
year round life. It reaches the peak in the months of June to September.
Apart from its nightlife, said to be second only to Miami, it has
interesting museums to visit. A must is to have dinner in one of
the various restaurants in the small fisherman’s village next
to Rimini’s port , where the famous film director Fellini
was born.
Carpegna: is a near by mountain area reachable in less
than an hours time by car, where in winter one can go skiing.
Free time: Visiting famous art cities, horse riding,
bicycle tours.
Restaurants: the area is renowned for it’s excellent
food and wine. Both the Marche and Romagna tradition offer an excellent
gastronomy, rich of flavours with typical dishes based on meat or
fish.
Specialities: piadina, ancient Roman kind of bread,
meat or fish mixed grills, strozzapreti, and delicious plates based
on truffles.
